Mailbase is the UK's major electronic mailing list service, which enables groups to manage their own discussion topics (Mailbase lists) and associated files. The service is run by a team based at Newcastle University, and is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Funding Councils for England, Scotland and Wales to improve methods of group communication. These lists may be public, and therefore visible on the Mailbase gopher, or private. The site includes documentation and training materials, alphabetically organized collection of mail lists, as well as a directory of other Internet services/resources available to UK Internet Users.
